The awesome new mini Crack Yak from the legends at Twisted Hobbys. With 600mm wingspan this flag-ship of the mini series represents a real DIY pocket rocket! Like the Crack Yak Lite models, the Crack Yak Mini includes an undercarriage, but the build and the gear are up to you!
What the designer says:
" The Crack Yak Mini is the most high performance 3D and Xtreme Aerobatic small EPP plane on the market! The Mini evolved out of our quest for a small super high-performance plane that could be flown literally anywhere, in any space, yet improve on the over the top performance of the original Crack Yak. Through our extensive design and testing program over the last year we have honed in on the exact wing loading, power to weight ratio and developed the new airframe tweaks needed to excel in this smaller size. The result is going to be the most fun plane that you have ever had! "
Construction tips: Use UHU Por or Medium CA throughout. Foam-safe CA is not recommended.

Best of the bunch!

Absolutely love this model, to my mind it is better than the original Crack Yak. It is very precise and locked-in and lives up to the pocket rocket name, but will also fly very slow. Beautiful slow rolls, absolutely locked-in knife edge and all round fun.
I used the DualSky XM2212RTR-25 motor/ESC combo and it could have been made for this model. The Gening nano digital servos are an excellent choice for this model and fantastic value.
So much fun!
My first profile foamie. I bought the servo set, GWS 7 X 3.5 prop and Desire 300mAh lipos from here. The servos are an exact fit. I sourced the Dualsky combined ESC/motor from elsewhere. You'll need some 1.5mm O rings with 14mm ID (=17mm OD) which are easily sourced on ebay.
I recommend downloading the build manual first along with watching the video to work out what else you'll need. Mainly it's thin CA, UHU Por and a couple of fresh blades for your knife.
Take your time and it goes together a real treat.
I've only flown it a little so far but it's amazing. Pulls itself out of your hand at just over half power and then does whatever you want. I'm still new to the hobby but even I can hover it.
It doesn't eat up much space if you are careful with the throttle. I have used it in light winds up to 5mph and I think that is the maximum to maintain enjoyment as it gets deflected easily by gusts.

Thought I'd write a quick review of the mini with a bias towards weight.
There is plenty on the net that around 80g all up is where this model needs to be to fly sweetly, so when I read somewhere that at over 100g it wouldn't be up to much, when my build tipped the scales at 105g, I was concerned.
I needn't have been, on the next calm day over the Xmas period a number of flights showed that another 20gs dosent spoil the little Yak at all.
My setup is that as supplied I.e. Tiger motor, 6a Esc, Gening servos and the 2S 300 35c Desire cells.
Great flying model all round that do 10ft dia knife edge loops all day, just don't put it up in too much breeze as the gusts do tend to push it about the place which inevitably just ends up spoiling the fun.
minisize huge performance

I built the mini yak with the recommended servos motor and esc. Batteriess are Turnigy 260 2s. 7.35 gws prop.
Builds easily and accurately. I found it came out a bit heavier than 80g but this does not affect performance. Mine tops out at 100g.
The flying performance of this plane is awesome. If you can fly it, the mini will do it. Flys well in wind
Try knife edge harriers. accelerates like a missile from vertical prop hang.
This plane is tough and will withstand the usual knocks and bumps far better than depron will making it ideal for indoors. Will fly very slowly
I have flown the mini hard everyday for 2 weeks and everything has been faultless.
The mini yak does not disappoint in any way. Buy one...!
Fantastic. Exactly like described. Power set as well as servo set have been bought from this shop. AMAZING.
The plan is to buy a bigger version now. Thanks
