Prop Savers

Many small, light-weight brushless motors have a prop saver built in to the rotating case, usually with a 5.5mm nose and two pegs or screws over which you stretch a rubber o-ring. These not only help to save a propeller in the likely event of a crash but what many people new to the hobby do not realise is that this also prevents a great deal of wear on the motor bearings and damage to the internal motor shaft affecting the overall balance of the motor which vastly reduces the service life. Running ‘slow fly’ type propellers which are light-weight and flexible, especially in combination with a prop saver, is highly recommended where possible for motors under about 60g. For some setups like small fast models or highly aerobatic models, it is not feasible to do so and that is why it also recommended to replace propellers showing signs of wear as these will inevitably be unbalanced, which in turn adds a lot of strain to your motor bearings.
