What is a propeller adaptor?

A propeller adaptor (Also called a "shaft adaptor" or a "prop driver") is a small device that sits over the bare shaft of your electric motor, in order to allow a propeller to be mounted. Propeller adaptors usually always include a nut and washer, to secure the propeller after mounting.

Types of propeller/shaft adaptor

The available types of propeller adaptor are generally determined by the way the adaptor fits on the motor shaft. In this case, there are two types: grub screw fitting and collet type fitting.

Collet type propeller adaptors

Collet type propeller adaptors are also known as clamping type or "clamping cone". These adaptors sit on the motor shaft and literally are clamped on by the securing collet and the pressure of the nut and washer holding the collet over the cone of the adaptor to clamp onto the shaft. These are undoubtedly the most popular type of adaptor.

Grub screw type propeller adaptors

Grub screw type adaptors are usually used for shafts which have a filed area, against which the grub screw is tightened to prevent the adaptor from rotating loose on the shaft and thus affecting propeller RPM.
