The Platinum Pro 200A Opto ESC is a hugely powerful and configurable brushless electronic speed controller for giant-scale fixed-wing R/C model aircraft and 700/800 class helicopters. It supports a continuous current of 200 amps and bursts up to 250 amps on 6s-14s lithium polymer batteries and has integrated anti-spark circuitry to increase your connector lifespan and ease your nerves when connecting HV battery packs! Coincidentally, the input wires are 150mm long and 10AWG thick.
This latest version from the Platinum range has an upgraded 32-bit MCU, for ultra-smooth throttle response, a higher operating frequency and excellent motor speed governing. Various programming options are available which can be accessed using the optional LCD programming box or Wi-Fi module (sold separately) and HW link mobile phone app For fixed-wing aircraft, the following options are available: -
- Li-Po cell count
- LVC (Low voltage cut-off) and LVC type
- Response time (0-5 seconds)
- Brake type and brake force
- Timing and motor direction
- Driving efficiency optimisation (DEO) for freewheeling to increase efficiency
- Motor startup force
All of this technology and power is housed inside a carefully designed aluminium enclosure, with carefully positioned slots and fins for the best possible cooling. The internal components are stacked in such a way that the heat generated is dissipated as rapidly as possible to the surrounding enclosure to ensure maximum efficiency and cooling at all times.
With great power comes great responsibility and HobbyWing have granted our wishes with multiple ESC protection features. Conveniently, this ESC has a bright LED to indicate its operating status and aid in diagnosing any possible issues.
Power-on abnormal voltage protection
The red LED will flash if the input voltage is not within the regulated range.
Thermal protection
If the temperature of the ESC exceeds 110°, output power will be reduced by a maximum of 50%. After the temperature is reduced, maximum power will gradually be restored. When powered on, the ESC temperature cannot exceed 70° otherwise it will not start but instead, the LED will flash blue and a series of beeps will indicate the error.
Signal loss protection
If the input signal is lost for more than 0.25 seconds, output power will be stopped immediately to avoid catastrophic damage which could be caused by continuous power application. Output is restored following normal signal restoration.
Overload protection
Power is cut and the ESC will automatically restart itself if the load increases suddenly to a very high value. If the load remains high or sync with the motor is lost, then power is cut completely. This prevents overloading for example following a crash and/or a model flips and rotation of the propeller is accidentally blocked.
Low voltage cut-off protection
Typical LVC cut-off which reduces output power but does not stop the motor completely. The maximum power reduction is approximately 50%, which is usually plenty to allow a safe landing.
The Platinum Pro 200 is firmware upgradeable using the optional Wi-Fi module and HW link smartphone app. These are available separately and not included with the ESC.
